And, we were ready to face all the new challenges. The BEST NEWS this semester was, when we heard that wearing MASKS were no longer compulsory! Another highlight was when our foreign teachers were given the opportunity to attend a 12 Week Mandarin Course at Yuan Ze University.

On 29 April we had our PARENTS DAY. Our “Fun Day” was a huge success and everyone had a great time. The weather was PERFECT. It was a beautiful SUNNY DAY!! The foreign and local teachers organized “The Golden Picture” game. Some classes were also responsible for presenting games, while other classes decided to sell products. The Parents Association also hosted a second-hand uniform recycling event. This is really a meaningful concept of environ-mental protection.

Teacher Strawberry/Blueberry started a Food & Travel Channel on YouTube (thatfoodiejeanette) last year. She wants to promote TAIWAN to the rest of the world. She believes Taiwan is a perfect destination for tourists because it is so SAFE, and the TRANSPORTATION is great!

She would like parents to encourage the students to watch the videos because that will help to improve their English ability. She has also posted 5 videos of her country, South Africa, and 6 videos of the Philippines. By watching these videos students will learn more about other countries, their food, and culture. Especially, the video: TARTS – EASIEST RECIPES – Let your child try to make them!!

In order to increase the reading ability of children, foreign teachers were asked to select a picture book or story book and introduced or read it. These reading activities were recorded, and the videos are available on the website for everyone to view. If you are interested, you can search xxxxx on YouTube.

After June, Grade 6 students will enter a new phase of their life when they go to Junior High School. We would like to wish them the very best for a bright future!

We hope that everyone will have a wonderful summer vacation and enjoy a well-deserved break.
Hello, everyone!

The end of 2022 is just around the corner, and so is the end of the first semester at Qing Pu Elementary School. Before the year goes out with the old and in with the new, let us look back at some of the highlights of the first half of the school year!

The fun and learning never stop as the students learn new things under the Bilingual Education program. A wide variety of topics have been introduced to them, including Food, Clothing, and Transportation in their International Education classes as well as Understanding New Life, Interpersonal Relationships, Respect for Different Ethnic Groups, and Environmental Protection Issues in their Integrative Activities classes. All of these were taught through fun and engaging activities, allowing students to share their ideas. Apart from these, students will also be familiarized with local travel destinations and transportation in the coming few days as they head to the Gloria Outlets and Taoyuan Baseball Stadium on a bus or the MRT for their Outdoor Visit.

To further motivate students to meet new people and exchange ideas with them in English, they were encouraged to become members of International Pen Pals. Students at Qing Pu Elementary School have been able to connect with students in South Korea, Singapore, India, and the Philippines on Google Meet. After weeks of preparing their PowerPoint slides, they were able to share interesting things about themselves. They also had the chance to exchange ways of conserving oceans and marine resources. They have learned something new and made new friends, too!

Turning to other events, the school hosted the annual Sports Day on November 12, and it was met with much enthusiasm. Students hopped, jumped, and ran as they aimed for the gold. Parents and teachers also joined the fun as they ended the day with a relay race. All of this would not be possible without the help of the hardworking teachers and the support of parents and friends of Qing Pu Elementary School. Kudos to all of you! The Halloween Activity held on October 26 was also filled with fun as students paraded in their colorful Halloween costumes along the school corridors. They all looked cute!

We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone for making the first half of this school year a fantastic one! Let us continue working hard so that the fun and learning truly do not stop as we approach the next half!
Amazingly another 3 months have flown by since the last publication! We were however fortunate enough to still host the Parents day on Saturday 26 March. The hype for this day started well in advance. Students were planning and advertising their stalls in the hope to have a profitable day. The homeroom teachers also had their work cut out for them in preparing everything for the perspective groups. If we look back at the past three months, there has been multiple challenges thrown at the staff of the school. The Jumping Rope competition and the Outdoor activities had to be postponed more than once. Various classes stopped attending school and the whole schools’ classes had to be suspended on two separate occasions.

The big culprit in all this was the COIVID 19 virus. The resourceful team at Qing Pu Elementary school refused to let COVID get the upper hand. They resorted to online teaching, which most of the staff mastered during the previous lock down. Our new teachers had to learn and adapt quickly, which they did, with the help of the rest of the team. Most of the staff will agree that online teaching is just not the same as having students in a class. It makes interaction more difficult and lacks that personal communication that one gets from teaching in a class. That said; we are grateful that we could continue with online classes which is definitely better than no class at all.

The online teaching was not only a challenge for the teachers, but also for the parents of all the students. They also had to make plans and adapt to the challenge. We thank our parents for their resilience and their help to get the students in front of the screens for the online classes. The closer we got to the day, the more the excitement grew. On the day, it was a huge success. The parents came to support their children. They helped them with the set up and even made sure that everybody sold something. There was an abundance of games to play and a huge variety of items for sale. It was great to experience the children’s enthusiasm. You could also see the future business men/women and entrepreneurs strutting their stuff. Congratulations to everybody involved in this spectacular day.

The Summer Vacation is around the corner and it will be a welcome break. This will give everybody the time to recharge their batteries. It will give them time to get ready for a new, fun-filled academic year which will surely bring its own highlights and hopefully not to many lowlights. Take care!
Dear Parents

This semester a new foreign teacher from South Africa, has been appointed at our school. This fall semester our foreign bilingual education team welcomes a new teacher, Teacher Angel from South Africa. Our returning foreign teachers include Teacher Jeanette (South Africa) and Teacher Keri (USA). The bilingual foreign teachers will teach the subjects Integrative Activities and International Education. Integrative Activities is a course designed to integrate art, physical education, and daily life activities. In International Education students are introduced to various topics such as, sports & games, clothing, landmarks, transportation, and food from Taiwan and take a look or experience how these items are similar or different in other places around the world. We do our best to design our classes to be interactive and engaging to allow students to feel comfortable expressing themselves in English and to make learning fun. We hope our students enjoy learning with us!

We recently celebrated Teacher’s Day on Tuesday, September 28. We started the day with an appreciation ceremony, followed by pictures, and gifts of appreciation. Throughout the day, individual students approached teachers with cards, artwork, and hand-written notes of thanks. Both QingPu School and our students made us feel so loved and appreciated, thank you!!

We will soon celebrate Sport’s Day, an annual QingPu tradition featuring students competing in many different forms of both traditional and modern sporting events. Sports Day will be held at QingPu Elementary School on Saturday, November 13. Parents, guardians, and friends of QingPu are welcome to join us for the event. Did the planning committee know the best was yet to come because in August 1949 when the request for independent status was submitted, Qingpu Public School was born! There was a public education expansion in September 1968 that included the name change of the school to Qingpu Elementary School. In February 2018, Qingpu Elementary School officially began to become a bilingual school. The number of foreign teachers has also increased from one to four each year. Bilingual teaching in Qingpu Elementary School has also brought a large number of students to the school.

We are happy to celebrate 70 years of excellence here at Qingpu Elementary School. Each year we strive to provide the best education for our students. We aim to produce young stars who will grow and become wonderful leaders within our society. As we continue to grow as a school and a community, we would like to thank all of the people who make Qingpu Elementary such a great school. We couldn’t do it without our staff, parents, leaders, students, and the entire community.
Happy New Year family and friends of QingPu Elementary School! I think it is fair to say 2020 has been quite a ride and a challenging year for the world. As such, we are very grateful for the sense of “normalcy” and safety we feel at QingPu Elementary, which has allowed us to have such a safe and productive fall semester.

Here is a recap of some of the interesting things we have been up to in the Bilingual Education Program. Grade 1 and Grade 2 International studies we started the year learning to play traditional games in countries around the word. For example, we learned to play Taiwanese sandbags and shuttlecock and compared them to similar American folk games: corn in the hole and hacky sack. We will finish the year by learning about transportation across the world, proper etiquette and procedures aboard various types of transport, and conclude with a field trip to MRT stations A18 and A19. Grades 3 and 4 completed a unit on transportation earlier in the year and also experienced a ride on the MRT as well as instruction and a visit to the HSR station. This semester grades 5 and 6 have explored food and travel across the word and got to experience and taste such world traditions as British afternoon tea, Spanish tapas, Italian pasta, and making an American peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

We hope your children have enjoyed learning English through the interactive activities in our classrooms. We look forward to a new year and new semester with our students. We wish you all a happy and safe Chinese New Year with lots of time spent with your family and friends!
Hello! Happy Fall Semester! This semester we have three new foreign teachers that have joined our school. Teacher John, Teacher Taque, and Teacher Keri are all from the United States and join Teacher Jeanette on our Bilingual teaching team. The teachers are teaching International Education, Integrative Activities and Life Curriculum to all of the students here at Qingpu Elementary School. The topics this semester include Sports, Games, different kinds of Building, Clothing and Transportation around the world. We are introducing new vocabulary to the students and providing examples from around the world. For example, earlier this semester we learned about extreme sports and presented examples (like bungee jumping) that many of the students might not be familiar with. There are some activities in the world that are quite entertaining, but also could be quite dangerous. Anyway, we present the material and hope to engage the student’s curiosity.

On Monday, September 28th we celebrated Teacher’s Day here in Taiwan. We had a bit of an appreciation presentation in the morning, then throughout the day, individual students would approach the different teachers and give thanks; even handing the teachers with cards and artwork that they had made themselves. Thank you all for your support. It is a pleasure to be a part of your student’s education.

As teachers, we feel that it is very important to find interesting and creative ways to teach the material presented to us. We would like to introduce and improve the students’ knowledge regarding the food people eat in other countries, as well as interesting customs. For example, in Spain people eat two breakfasts and they eat their dinner between 21:00 – 24:00 at night! The main aim why we chose the topic Traveling is to expose students to other countries, their culture and, most importantly, make them realize there is ANOTHER WORLD beyond Taiwan. The topic on Buildings enables students to learn about different iconic buildings from around the world, along with the significance of each building.
